President’s Message


Thank you for entrusting me to serve a second term as Interim-President of District of Columbia Health Information Management Association (DCHIMA) into the future. The tireless efforts of those before me have laid a steady foundation for me to follow. I am honored to be associated with the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA), Component State Association (CSA) that is rich in history. DCHIMA’s legacy is one that is of prominence, excellence, professionalism, resilience, diversity, service, and opportunity. The road ahead of is one which ends at the arriving destination of a rebuilt and re-branded DCHIMA as a first-class CSA, for others to follow. During my next term, my focus will continue to be directed to the following initiatives that include but not limited to:

  • Elevating our voice and efforts as advocates (local and national)
  • Strengthening and/or developing partnerships with local health care employers, colleges & universities
  • Reaching out to local middle and high schools to promote the awareness of the profession
  • Increasing our presence in the District of Columbia and surrounding areas for the purpose of community service and/or consumer education efforts
  • Recruiting new members to the association
  • Maintaining an annual schedule of continuing education opportunities on topics of interest
  • Enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of internal operational and strategic practices and processes

The DCHIMA of today is one that has proven its ability to withstand the test of times.Our strength is not measured by the counting of numbers; our strength is you, the members of DCHIMA. A call to action has been put into place, for each and every DCHIMA member to pledge your ongoing support and volunteerism. Join me on the journey “Lasting Footprints: Embarking on the Next DCHIMA’s Chapter of Legacy”. As stated last year during my presidency, DCHIMA, This is your moment, our moment and the moment, to continue to write the next chapter of our great legacy.
